From the historical point of view the district is famous for the Sicilian baroque: Ragusa, Scicli, Modica, Militello in val di Catania, Palazzolo Acreide, Noto, Caltagirone and Catania are all inserted in the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LIST.
